How we can work with you

The core services we offer at The Workshop are research, consulting and training.

Research and message guides

At The Workshop we carry out research to help you communicate in ways that will build public support for policies and practices for a more inclusive and sustainable world. There are two main approaches we take to this research, either a full toolkit project, or a shorter message guide project.

Full toolkit process

In our full toolkit process, we start by researching existing expert and public narratives about your topic, looking for gaps, overlaps and potential strategies to reframe the issue.

Based on those insights, we develop and test new strategies to improve public understanding of the issue. We look for communication techniques and messages that move people to better understand and, where relevant, act on the evidence. Finally we develop message guides and training tools to help you and your collaborators understand and apply the new communications strategies.

Message guide process

In our shorter message guide process, we do a literature review of international and local evidence on how best to frame your issue.

We then translate our findings into a short practical guide to inform your communications.

Costs and timeframes

Total costs and timeframes for both of these processes vary. We are happy to work with you to identify what will work for you and your needs. To discuss this please get in touch with Jess (jess@theworkshop.org.nz) or Marianne (marianne@theworkshop.org.nz) to discuss your needs.

Consulting and expert mentoring

We can also work with you directly to provide tailored advice and mentoring to help you develop and review your communication strategies and messages.

As consultants and mentors, we’ve worked with government departments, iwi, non-profit organisations and media outlets to help them develop effective communication strategies and messages based on our research.

One of the key lessons we’ve learned is that the sooner you involve us in the process, the more helpful we can be. So get in touch with Jess (jess@theworkshop.org.nz) or Marianne (marianne@theworkshop.org.nz) to discuss your needs.
